Klobuchar and Colleagues Introduce Bipartisan Legislation to Strengthen Democracy

Bill Sets Basic National Standards for Voter Access, Election Security, and Campaign Finance

Washington, D.C – In a bold move to protect the fundamental right to vote, Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and several of her Democratic colleagues have introduced the Freedom to Vote Act, a comprehensive election-protection compromise. The bill addresses crucial aspects of elections, including voter registration and voting access, election integrity and security, redistricting, and campaign finance.

At the heart of the Freedom to Vote Act is the establishment of basic national standards to ensure equitable access to voting for all Americans, regardless of their location. The bill expands voter registration options, including automatic and same-day registration, and makes it easier for people to vote by mail or early.

Furthermore, the bill strengthens election security by providing resources for states to invest in voting technology and cybersecurity. It also combats partisan gerrymandering, which dilutes the power of voters by manipulating district boundaries. To promote transparency in campaign finance, the bill mandates disclosure of dark money spending and limits the influence of special interests.
